Fortress is a full complement of defense programs united by a consistent point-and-click interface. It helps you find existing security risks and take measures to prevent information theft or damage to your data in the future. The first time you use Fortress, you will perform an initial investigation of your system and correct any risk or breaches of security that are found. From then on, Fortress will scan files automatically at specified intervals. If it finds anything suspicious, it will notify you. It's a security shield that will inspect your files, path and passwords as often and as thoroughly as you wish. The four modules operate with GUI friendliness. A description of each module follows:
Four dictionaries provided: Password Information: derived from system-specified user information. Common: 1,000 common names, words and their permutations. Main: Over 25,000 dictionary words. Main Extended: Over 100,000 permutations of Main Dictionary words.
Users can specify site or industry-specific words which are automatically permuted and checked. NIS ("Yellow Pages") passwords supported. Interactive feedback provided during search. Users can test new passwords before changing passwords.
Protects against unauthorized or accidental modifications or virus infestation. File/Directory Browser lets you inoculate and check directories, directory trees, files or entire file system. Each file has a unique fingerprint, which guarantees greater than 99.99% security. Inoculation can be done on a system-wide, user-by-user or user-specified basis. File attribute information is available through the GUI so changed files can be quickly checked. Files can be excluded based on user-specified criteria.
Commands are checked for incorrect ownership or file permissions. Duplicate copies of system commands are identified. Basic, standard and extensive sets of system command are optional. Customized set of commands including site-specific commands or applications are available.
Contents of system files which permit network access are analyzed for weakness. Modifications to these files are recommended. Checks for prior infestation of Internet Worm. Checks for backdoors in system programs. Results can be viewed or sent to a file or printer.
